One more silly question: What happens if we exceed 3,000 words. Mine is looking as if it may go over by a smidge.

It's okay if it goes over, but no more than 250 words.

I should be able to make it under 3,000, but it's nice to know I have that cushion. I don't have any problem with having an upper word limit, but I'm curious about why people put them on fic challenges. Is it to keep people from overextending themselves, or more to makes sure that the exchange is equitable (i.e., someone gets a multi-chapter novel, someone gets something that only qualifies as 1,500 words if you count the header and html tags, and hyphenated words as two words each)?

I did it this way because around this time of year, there are so many challenges/exchanges, I didn't want anyone to overextend themselves. Also, as you said, because I want it to be as fair as possible. I've been in exchanges where there was no limit, and someone got a 10,000 word fic, while a few people barely got 500 drabbles.
