i was thinking it was slightly worse, actually. e.g., there's also no black box, so inquiries go entirely on the muddled recollection of the pilot unless by sheer luck there's some other recorded info somewhere; also because their job is on the line the pilot has a strong incentive to shade the details; also the pilot has no legal duty to keep the passengers alive; also the inquiry is conducted by other pilots.

My "favorite" is the legal right, in many places, to spend 24 hours constructing and rehearsing a story before being officially questioned.
