circus smirkus

frobzwiththingz casually mentioned this weekend that he'd just seen the current circus smirkus touring show, and that it had more aerial stuff than he'd expected and was worth seeing; so tonight we caught them in revere. worth seeing, yes.

the first thing moominmolly and i noticed was that even the casual movements of the clowns seemed controlled, deliberate. i guess we ( Read more... )

Being able to sit on the hoop seems like something of an advantage? Even in a "rest position" on silks, some part of you has to be tied up (footlocks) or contorted (hip keys).

there's a sling move that's almost exactly the same as the single footlock rollup; someone did it in the show (i think it was in the net act).

my first instinct was to say that if you tried the double footlock version on net or sling the bottom of the loop would tighten around your leg until you couldn't move anymore; but thinking further about that i think that's not really true. anyway, imagine spreading the loop out like a hammock, and doing a front split in it with your legs pointing along the fabric (might need to have a significant oversplit...). then just reach both hands to grab the fabric in front of you, and start rolling up. i bet it'd work.

you've got a full front split; wanna try it? :)

on net but not fabric sling to... zero
have to watch Anton's net routine over again- but i thought there were a couple of sequences where he put his feet and fingers into the netting to climb and grab it?

Lyra: What makes me apprehensive is it seems many of the moves rely on you having good splits and straddles to look good. Plus, it hurts. *whine*

yeah, and there was a move where he turned the net inside-out holding on with his toes tucked into it. but they did that same move on fabric sling, with toes tucked into a folded edge of fabric.
