Ginny knocked on the door of the flat she hadn't visited in a long time. Much to her surprise, Harry opened the door.
"Hey…" he said in a gentle, shocked tone. "I didn't expect to see you here."
"I didn't expect to see you," replied Ginny.
"We were just helping Hermione pack before her parents arrive tomorrow."
"Tomorrow." Ginny sighed into the night.
What she'd read in the paper had been a shock. It was a tell-all interview by Hermione for the Prophet. She was taking a year-long break from the Ministry to go and find peace in her life.
Why did she want this peace?
Because she'd broken her own heart by putting her job above all, hiding what was most important to the world. Her love for another woman.
Hermione hadn't named Ginny but she'd discussed their secret relationship in the interview. For all those utterly surprised by this news, no one was more surprised than Ginny.
"Can I come in?" she asked.
Harry nodded allowing her to enter, closing the door behind him. When she walked into the wall, Ginny almost caught her breath. All the walls were bare-the artwork removed. Ron was sat on the sofa wrapping things by hand and Malfoy in the other corner putting things in boxes.
"And no one invited me to the party?" She chuckled.
Then, Hermione walked into the room and froze.
"Hi," Ginny said.
"Hi," said Hermione.
"Um…can we talk?"
Hermione nodded; as Ginny walked towards her, she watched Malfoy cross the room and sit next to Ron. Just then she had a million questions about what was going on but decided it wasn't the time.
They went into Hermione's study which was now mostly an empty room.
"So where are you going to go?" Ginny asked.
"You read the article? I didn't think you paid attention to the Prophet."
"Thimba showed it to me."
Hermione nodded. "I was hoping to leave before you found out. To avoid any awkwardness."
"Why?"
Hermione gave Ginny a sharp look but then her features softened. "Olivia."
Oh. Ginny realised.
"Oh, sweetheart!" Ginny exclaimed without meaning to utter the term of endearment. "She's not the one."
