Um, I know this is probably going to be a weird question-- and no one has to answer if they don't want to! But I was wondering...

[ A pause. ]

... What's Father's Day?

[ Another pause. ]

-- I-I mean, I guess it's pretty self-explanatory. But I mean, how's it celebrated? How does it work? Is it like a birthday, but with dads?

[ And another ( Read more... )

It can be celebrated by giving a small gift.

So it is sort of like a birthday then.

Yes. It's not as big of a deal as Mother's Day where I'm from though.

What do you mean? [ A pause. ] Is it celebrated differently for mothers?

It's a day to be nice to your dad.

[ She pauses for a moment, her usual playful tone slightly gone. ]

Y'know, being thankful and all that.

[ He notices that. But all the same, he doesn't say anything about it. ]

It sounds about like what I was expecting then..

It's mostly just an excuse for stores to sell more stuff.

[ Sort of bitter about father-related stuff, sorry!! ]

Tch, not that I can blame them, though.

[ A pause. This is a bit more bitter than he's used to hearing from Kyouko.. ]

... Well, there's not really any use for money here, so there's no need to worry about buying stuff.

[ He hesitates for a second, thinking on whether to ask or not... before throwing up a filter. ]

Um... are you okay..?

[Dante is laughing. Yes, you are too speshul for words.]

You've never celebrated father's day? TO be fair, neither have I, but I've seen it.

Pretty much, someone decided to make a day where everyone thanks dads for- well, doing their moms and being your dad. You celebrate it by makin' a party and giving him a gift. It's just another excuse to kiss ass.

Don't have a dad, kid? Don't feel bad. Neither do I.

[ S-So blunt.. ]

W-Well, I wouldn't really mind celebrating it, it's just.. I don't really have a dad to celebrate with. [ A pause. ] Unless Gramps counts..

[That's how he rolls.]

'Course a gramps counts. He's your dad's dad, that makes him a dad. The thing about this holiday is that you actually celebrate all dads indiscriminately.

[ Not gonna correct Dante over the fact that it's his adopted grandfather, since that seems kind of.. nitpicky. ]

Heh, I guess I should get something together for Gramps then. For whenever I get back home. [ And get out of that cliffhanger ending Elysium.. ]

Y'know, I'd never heard of Father's Day until now! There sure are a lot of neat holidays...

I'm not really sure, either; we don't have such holidays where I'm from. If I had to take a guess, you could give your father a gift of some sort.

[ She's at just as much a loss as you are, buddy. Don't feel bad D8 ]

Yeah, that's what I figured. But I'd never heard of it before, so I didn't want to assume anything..
