FYI, buzzkill Slate writer is female. Somehow I doubt that the live performances of the early 1930s are in any way the same as what Hooper is doing. (of course, Slate is the home of "You're doing it wrong", a series of cooking articles that pretty much state that if you put meat in lasagna, you're doing it wrong. So take most of their coverage of everything with lots and lots of salt.)
