I love the secret life of bees! I thought it was a great adaptation of a lovely book :)
Becoming Jane - I`ve sort of grown to accept and like the film. I still don`t own it but yeah it`s not bad.
Wow you really liked MA that much ? I still haven`t seen it but I guess I should ;)
I`ve seen Wings of a Dove , Nicholas Nickleby and Bright Star. All nice films especially Bright Star :)

Any of the films I've marked with a * are worth seeing.

I find Marie Antoinette fascinating. My love for the story has more to do with the musical version by Kunze and Levay *points to icon.* But I greatly enjoyed the film via association ;-)

The film is more an attempt to explain why MA was the way she was, not to totally justify her, but to de-villainize her.

The musical, on the other hand, is sort of a MA parable about rich and poor and forgiveness. MA's life is paralleled against that of another woman. Margrid Arnaud is poor; she lives in the streets where she is starving. Her anger at the queen causes her to join the revolution.

But as the story unfolds both Margrid and Marie Antoinette learn to forgive and have compassion for others, even people they disliked.

Margrid's big song: Blind von Licht der vielen Kerzen (Blinded by the light of many candles) -- the German lyrics are in the poster's info. Find an online translator (such as http://babelfish.yahoo.com/... )

I loved both the MA film and musical, but the musical more than the film. (Oh, I tried that online translator and it isn't very good. But it does convey the gist of the song, however un-artfully.)

Bright Star is a beautiful film! To think Keats died thinking he was a failure. But it also shows how hard it is to produce truly great art. And the significance of what Keats was able to achieve is enormous. Then the costumes ... wow. I just loved all the details.

I would, however, agree with other people who have said that they think Fanny was Bi-polar. It's certainly a possibility. And if she was Bi-polar her situation would have been similar to Keats. Both of them struggling with illnesses that were mostly untreatable in their time; how sad!
