Like most on Pern, Fabian's dreamed of Impressing a dragon and joining his brother in Pern's fighting ranks. He's dreamed of fighting Thread and saving Pern from its greatest menace.

It turns out there's a lot more to being a dragonrider than fighting Thread.

This is beyond amazing! I was immediately hooked after a few paragraphs, even though I don't know the 'Dragonriders of Pern'. I looked up some details about the series to be able to understand more, and fortunately, I have somehow managed to keep up with the plot.
Naming the dragons after the surnames of the boys? The best idea ever.

I could have made up names- but I said fuck it, no one's going to remember them anyway. So I took the last names' idea and ran with it, even though it created some problems with the more...German names. I desperately wanted Schlichtith, but it's way too long and looks horrible. It's so pretty, though. In my messed up head.
