SEMI-COHERENT ANNIVERSARY POST: reflections after 15 years

Aug 02, 2014 09:11

In the wake of yesterday’s news I’m not sure this warrants much discussion, but what the heck. I got a rather late start on my art tribute for this year, but I couldn’t let the big one-five go by without posting something nostalgic. I’m either going to continue my Data Squad rewatch today or to start an 02 one (because SUDDEN REASONS) while I keep ( Read more... )

That's definitely a valid concern, although I suppose part of what I didn't like about the epilogue was it was just so... sudden. Like, you just wrapped up the story in the present, and now you're suddenly telling me all of this stuff about the future, about these characters getting married and having kids and random careers and the world is perfect and wonderful? Um... how? Why? WHAT?? It was pretty jarring and seemed kinda unnecessary. If they use this series to show how the future starts to happen, and provide some story points that allow for natural and logical character/world development that would help connect the dots between what we see in the bulk of the series and what we see in the epilogue, I would like to think I'd feel more comfortable with how things turn out. Then again, you and I might not like the epilogue for different reasons, so... I dunno, that's just my take on things. I do think the series planners will probably acknowledge future events somewhat, but hopefully that won't be ALL the series is about. I also hope ( ... )

Digimonnnnnnn! It's just... it's so great, man TT_TT (and haha you're actually the same age as my sister so I'm even more outside the age demographic but WHATEVER I just enjoy cute/awesome/moving stories, characters, and animation-- that stuff should know no age limits, right ( ... )

Pssh, exactly. How far are we both outside of the age demographic NOW? XD; And I always looked at it like "I'm getting more out of it than a half-aware, spastic little kid, so there." In fact, when I babysat some neighbor kids as a teenager, word got out that I collected Pokemon cards and I had Pokemon and Digimon movies/videos. I brought some of them over, and...yeah, it really kind of unnerved me and broke my heart that they paid about 10% attention to it, and the rest of their energy went to running, screaming, doing summersaults, showing me other toys, and all manner of things. (I was probably a better-behaved and more serious child than these kids, but I maintain: These shows are mostly lost on the "target demographic ( ... )

Well, kids will be kids, I suppose, and I guess it just goes to show that a lot of the demographic and market research stuff is baloney anyway. Always-too-old-don't-even-care cartoon ringleader solidarity! Yeeeah! (and Agumon trading stocks and being a secret Wall Street shark (er, dinosaur) is kind of my new favorite mental image) XD ( ... )

I first watched it 1st season and was suspicious like you. they were in the desert at that time and thought meh boring. I started watching from the 2nd season on and then i watched a rerun of one. didnt lie 3 that much. savers was alright with the ken expies . looking forward to the next show.

I know! It's pretty ridiculous right now. I'm not sure Crystal is really living up to my expectations, but it's been enjoyable enough. Haha, and several of my favorite moments actually involve kids lost and wandering around the various incarnations of the Digital World, but to each his own. Not sure what you mean "Ken expies"-- Savers does have a fair number of interesting ideas, though. I'm likewise looking forward to the next show!

Well i considered koji/koujiro (were that the names) to be like a good ken/ bad ken(initiall) split up they even have the same hair colour haha.

Oh and another desert relaed fun fact. When i first watched Star wars, I just saw those two droids wandering the desert and thought eh boring, but all in all i am a star wars fan now regardless xD

Crystal is so far awesome for me, very close to the manga i know(which i bought and eagerly waited for every month from manga 4 from.

Ooooh, OK! You're really close-- Koji and Koichi, and they DID take after Ken a bit in looks and dual personality, didn't they? They were actually in Digimon Frontier, which was the fourth series. Savers was the one that came after that and had Masaru, Yoshino, Touma, and Ikuto in it (or Marcus, Yoshie, Thomas, and Keenan, in the English version). So far, that show hasn't had too many deserts, but I've only watched about 20 episodes.

Haha, desert related fun facts-- I love it! Thank you, Digimon (and Star Wars), for giving us more characters wandering through deserts than we know what to do with! XD

Oh man, I totally can relate to your sister's experience (well, except for the "being too cool" part :P)-- Matt was definitely my (first) big Digi-crush too! I, er... *might* have moved on to Tai by the time 02 was ending, but wow, there was so much that was *NOT ALLOWED* the first time I saw the epilogue; pairings and careers AND ALSO all the cuties I had grown to love were all old and had big freaking chins and small hair (SMALL! HAIR! Completely unforgivable, haha). And oh man. I definitely remember all of the Proof-By-Proximity stuff-- it fueled the Taito fire as well since Matt and Tai were standing SUPER-CLOSE together in the very same shot (and darn it... Sora and Joe WOULD be cute together. Hrrrrgh ( ... )

Oh yay! I'm really glad to hear your take on all of this (particularly since it seems like we were JUST discussing unnecessary remakes-- we can still reserve the right to be genuinely upset if they DID do a full-on Adventure remake, but continuations are, erhm... totally different, right?? ^^;) "Joy, anticipation, and terrible fear..." yeah, that really does sum it up, although I suppose my fear has been more gradual and creeping than part of the initial FEELING-SPLOSION (iwillstaypositive iwillstaypositive they'renotgonnaeffitup it'llbeokay)... eheheh ( ... )
