How do men and women shop for clothes? Hayhoe et al (2000) found that female college were also more apt to purchase clothes, whereas males purchased electronics, food, and entertainment. There's an assumption in there of women's clothes being of worse quality than men's that I think would be very difficult to prove -- there would be a lot of apples to oranges. I'm having a difficult time finding any papers that address quality or durability in clothing manufacture.
