This is one of the reasons I really want to look at these kinds of interpretations in same-sex couples. I also want to examine how overt it has to get before heterosexual women wonder if a woman is hitting on them, and ditto for heterosexual males.

I've known and dated guys who were supremely arrogant and women who were painfully self-conscious

self conscious is not a parallel with whether or not you think people are hitting on you, IMO.

No, but I do think it correlates with whether you think you're attractive and worthy of attention. Sort of a "whether you expect people to be hitting on you" thing.
