Denim Jeans

Some gender tidbits about my favorite garment:
  • During WWII, women's jeans had their zippers along the right side, while men's opened in the front. (Wikipedia)
  • Some men apparently resent the lack of ultra-low cut jeans for men, and buy women's jeans instead, according to a poll by "LowRiseJeans" (2002) (n = 79 over five years).
  • Cotton, Inc claims ( Read more... )

I don't know that I ENJOY shopping for jeans, but it just doesn't bother me much. When I felt obligated to buy girl's jeans I didn't like it, but since I started wearing boys jeans around high school age all has been relatively well. The only thing I don't like is that my size goes up nearly every year and now I have to shop at big/tall men's stores or feed stores...and the bigger jeans are nearly always more expensive. I don't even try them on anymore, I just buy a 42/30 off the shelf.

My job doesn't allow blue jeans...so I've been wearing black jeans every day for almost a year now. I'm probably not fooling anyone, but no one bothers me about it.

I do luvs the jeans!

I prefer a lower rise -- something below the natural waist -- myself, but ultra low rise are kinda gross. I don't know anyone who looks good in jeans that cover the bellybutton, though.

Here's something I keep meaning to talk about: I kind of miss thong underwear because I found it much more comfortable than the boxers I wear now.

The only time I enjoyed shopping for jeans was when I had a monogamous jeans relationship with a particular retailer and I could go in and pick perfect jeans off the shelf. Although really, that's more "smug" than "joyful" per se.

I have had my smug moments shopping for jeans. I don't think that's really the same.

Anyone who claims to enjoy shopping for jeans is a liar.

Or a masochist. or one of those men-who-like-ultra-low-rise jeans. WTF is WRONG with (some) people?!? I used to shop at thrift stores out of desire to spend less money on clothes; now I do it because that seems to be the only place that unfashionably high-waisted (by which I mean "not low-rise and certainly not ultra-low") pants can be found.

I wear jeans out way too fast for the horror of looking for a new pair to be any kind of fun; I can easily believe that stat about trying on 9 pairs to find 1 that fits. Not that jeans are unique among pants in that regard :\ Wearing skirts as my usual garb is starting to sound like a better idea every day.

average woman tries on 9 pairs of jeans before finding one that fits

I believe it. I'm very picky when it comes to purchasing jeans.
