Recently, the boychild had a Family History assignment for his Language Arts class. I made the mistake of dipping my toe into Ancestry.com and have become obsessed with doing genealogy research. So many ancestors! Is this the right Meyer? Is that the right Kephart? Thank god for online databases and scanned original documents ( Read more... )

can you tell me the price for ancestry.com and was it worth it?

They haev a variety of different membership options. You can do a US member ship for $89 for 6 months or $159 for a year.

If you want to be able to view records from other countries (the actually scanned record), you need a World membership, which is more. That one is $169 for 6 months and $299 for a year.

Typically, you can get it for slightly less if you sign up for a trial or watch for specials. They just did a special that was $49 for 6 months.

Personally, I have found it to be extremely worthwhile, especially in terms of having so many different kinds of records available in one place. I also have paid subscriptions to NewspaperArchives.com (which has been invaluable) and Archives.com. The Newspaper and Ancestry have, by far, proven to be the most worthwhile.
