Pet Peeves in Fanfiction

Feb 10, 2010 18:37

After a nice chat with my new friend terrayn which got me thinking about Pet Peeves in Dramione, I found a highly amusing list for fanfiction from the link below

II. Thou shall learn a blank line is good between paragraphs for thy readers shall not become dizzy upon reading thy fic. YES PLEASE FOLLOW THIS ONE!

lol. Sorry, I've just been reading a story and while good, makes me go O.o because of the really long paragraphs and the lack of spaces.

X. Sex be not a plot in and of itself.

I feel a bit sorry for the readers on this site. I mean sure, I like a bit of plot with my sex (or rather, a bit of sex with my plot) but come on, how are people to learn how to write smut if they have to read smut that comes with an actual story to distract them from the sex? I'm just asking.

I agree with you on the last part, but although I enjoy PWP - it is even better when you're there after or in the middle of awesome plot!

Try this one for plot with smut, feelings, mystery, humour. :-)

I think I used to be more into PWP's than I am now - now I would rather have no sex but a good story.

Thanks for the link. I plan on going through all of the gifts posted when I have time and then probably go through them as they are posted. :P I've not had a chance to read most, though I've glanced through several when posting them - this round has so far been really quite awesome, I think, in terms of the quality of the work.

Okay, almost the whole section on Smut is... uhm... well.

I agree with V. - I don't like Mary Sues, shoot me if I ever do it.

But the others? I WANT the character to put IT THERE, hence the writing of dark smut. ;) What's wrong with Necrophilia and Bestiality? Mooney or Padfoot fics, anyone? Plus, anything vamp is technically considered necro. M'just saying. ;)

Chaste smut? There IS such a thing folks - use your imagination.

Me no likee these commandments. Moses would balk. *snickers*

I adore Remus!!!!!!! And oh yeah, it may be dirty/hawt/wrong/nasty - but well described, tastefully written bestiality is... DAYUMN HAWT! (excuse my misspellings - I get worked up thinking about it) LMAO (did you read the smut "Hope's Span is Long" on GE? HAWT Remus/Hermione - yum!)

You're welcome! Actually, can anyone think of a good Dramione PWP? :-) These rules just stirred my rebellious streak :-)

Yeah, like others have said, I kind of disagree with this person's commandmants for smut. I think it's all a matter of taste - some people like PWP, necrophilia, bestiality, etc., and some people don't. That doesn't mean it's necessarily a bad thing.

But def agree on the formatting and Mary Sue aspects! :)

This almost inspires me to write a pet peeve list of my own. :D Mine would include character bashing (esp. bashing of Ron, Harry, and Ginny, which happens too often in the Dramione verse), song fics (not fics inspired by songs, but fics that consist of 90% song lyrics and only 10% of the author's actual writing) and excessive SpAG errors.

I never minded some mild Ron bashing, but unfortunately, after reading some Dramione stories, I seemed to have developed a rather strong dislike of Ginny. And I really don't want to, cuz I liked her in the books... Alas.

I. Thou shall not write large paragraphs of doom. Thou shall embrace the concept of paragraphs.

LOL. Yeeeeeeeeees, so much.

I. Screaming 'No!' at the top of one's lungs be not consent.

And a thousand dubcon-ers weep in the night. ;)

I've read some great chips of rock so embracing the concept of paragraphs is sound advice :-D
