I flew back from Rome last night, and somehow it took nine and a half hours to get here. My mother met me at Newark airport and we took New Jersey Transit back to Manhattan, which was a mistake. Those trains are gross and depressing and no sooner had we entered the train with my massive suitcase than people started being rude and not letting us sit ( Read more... )

Wow - that's so cool that you were able to visit with an Italian family! The dancing does sound like something straight out of a movie. Tomasso also sounds like something from a movie - the guys that tried to hit on us were never pretty. Ahem - but yes, family friend. :) And the food... mmmmmmmmmm... and the limon liqueur - hee. Our best Italian meal was at a little family restaurant where the staff spoke about as much English as I speak Italian, so a lot of pointing was involved. After the meal, they gave us each a shot of limoncello on the house ( ... )

You're right, the idea of being with a group of people and having them be your travel people, and not really anything else, is kind of nice. We lived together in Florence for 6 weeks, and that's pretty amazing whether we keep in touch or not. Besides, it wouldn't really be the same with them anywhere else besides Italy.

I love Italy. Heh, I feel sort of linked to anyone who's traveled in Italy, even if I wasn't with them.
