I'm having my knee replaced this summer, which will require me to be sitting in one spot for physical therapy for about a month. After flipping through the TV today, I realized that I won't last very long trying to keep occupied with those offerings. I also realized that I haven't been up to date on books this year (taking a technology course that ( Read more... )

That sounds painful!

For contemporary fiction, I like Jonathan Tropper (funny), Anne Tyler (great characters), and Lionel Shriver (literary). A recent book I loved is the historical fiction novel The Help. Some nonfiction I loved is Columbine (well-researched and chilling), Better (medical stuff for laypeople), and Kathy Griffin's memoir (funny).

I hope your surgery goes well.

Thanks! I'll look those up. I have to admit, they are names I know about, but I don't think I've read. Thanks for the help!! the surgery will give me my life back....it's bound to be great. But the lay up time needs some planning so I don't go crazy.

If you haven't read them, all of Marcus Zusak's books. :-)

There are sooooo many YA books to read I wouldn't even know where to start. I'd probably just go to the library and pull all the new books I haven't read yet. :-)

Hope the surgery goes well and the recovery quickly!!!

Thanks Jo. I'm really looking forward to some extended reading time. Although I've enjoyed all the educational books this year, they are nothing like good fiction. I'll check out Marcus Zusak books first.

There's a new Atollia book out! Conspiracy of Kings is wonderful and absorbing.

And I may sound like a traitor, but don't overlook DVDs. If you haven't seen Masterpiece Theater's Cranford series, please do look into it! It is like DVD Xanax.

Best wishes for a swift recovery!

Thanks. You know, I hadn't considered what DVD's might be good. Much more selective than TV. I'll check out the Atollia book and the Masterpiece Theaer's series. Thanks!!!

It's my favorite Masterpiece Theater production ever! Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins, Imelda Staunton (who completely ROCKS!) It's about a small town in 1840's England that is dominated by a group of middle class women, mostly single or widowed and how they support each other and protect their way of life. By turns witty, hysterical and heartbreaking. It's perfect recuperation watching.

Don't forget the selection of DVD's I have, I have sets of 100 movies in series of various types, as well as individual ones. Can I be of any help? Dad------ I also have the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical set of Cats, Super Star, Joseph and The amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The Royal Albert Hall Celebration.
