19: No, it can’t be…

After years on Earth and in their profession, it was still weird to see his wife kiss other men.

The first time had been a horrifying experience. She’d almost lost control. He’d almost beaten their co-star to a pulp. It was only after Leslie threw the script at him that he’d calmed down.

One day, she told him that human men couldn’t kiss like Majesdanians.

Another, she told him she wanted to stay home and get the taste of Earthling out of her mouth.

Today, she was in a rare good mood. She ran over to him between scenes and flirted from across the set. Frank was enjoying himself. He sucked on his gum and smiled inwardly.

She slipped into his arms again.

"Hey."

"Hm?"

"I have some news for you."

"Oh?"

She grinned. Didn’t say anything else for the rest of the day.

When they made it to the car, he forestalled leaving and gave her a long, concerned looking-over.

"Is something wrong?" he asked.

"Drive. I’ll tell you when we get home."

Wind whipped through his hair. He tried to put the pieces together, but couldn’t quite put his finger on anything. She grinned foolishly and made a comment about ‘survival of the species.’

He thought… Nah. Couldn’t be. Not her. Not so soon.

They pulled into the drive. He walked with her up to the house. As soon as the door closed, he grabbed her wrist.

"Tell me."

"Man," she complained. "I was sure ‘survival of the species’ would tip you off."

"Leslie."

"Pregnant."

Frank smacked his forehead with his free hand. "Of course. Majesdanian survival mechanism. Pregnant females get really happy."

"Yes."

He sighed. "Well, I’ll be happy if you are."

She grinned and ran upstairs.
