"I want pie," Leslie informed her husband.
"We’ve been here for over an hour. Can we get pie on the way home?" Frank sighed.
Leslie laid a hand on her swollen belly. "Please, Frank? The baby wants pie."
He put thoughts of the bill out of his mind with an astronomical sigh. "I suppose we can get you pie."
He waved the waiter over.
"What can I do for you, sir?" the old man asked, very polite, despite the length of their stay.
"My lady wants pie," Frank said. "Have you got pie?"
The man listed several varieties of pie. Leslie thought for a moment.
Please don’t say, ‘All of them,’ Frank silently begged. Please don’t say, ‘All of them.’
She must have heard his thoughts. She smirked coyly at him and settled on something called the ‘Strawberry Melt.’
Thank you, baby. "Wow. That sounds…"
They both gaped when the waiter set the thing down in front of her. It was a massive slice oozing strawberries and goo, with caramel and chocolate and half-melted ice cream on top.
"Oh, wow," he finished.
"I don’t know if even I can eat all of that," Leslie agreed.
"The pie is on the house." The waiter offered no further explanation. Just let them be.
"That was nice," Leslie commented.
"It means he’s already printed the bill and he doesn’t want to do it again," Frank replied. "Still. I won’t argue with free pie."
She grabbed a fork and dug into it. "Oh, that is good."
It better be. "May I?"
"One." She held up a stern finger. "Take more and I’ll have the baby kick your butt."
