Victor looked up and almost fell over.
"Janet? Is that you?"
She smiled self-consciously. "Yeah."
Janet was wearing a dress with absolutely zero practical purpose, and make-up.
"Wow, Jan. Dress like that more often and I won’t let you leave the house."
She blushed and started to worry her lip, before remembering she was wearing lipstick, and stopping. "We do need to put up a good front, after all," she said. "And Catharine was saying that they’d gone and invited people with eyes and ears, so we’d best look the part, right?"
He nodded.
"Well, are we going to go now, or what?" she snapped, suddenly irritated.
Victor gave her a sheepish look. "Baby, you really don’t want me to stand up right now."
She threw her hands in the air. "Whatever. I’ll be in the car."
