Summary: She wasn't sure then, but she is now.

At the time, she wasn’t sure how they’d convinced the priest to go through with the ceremony. All she’d been able to figure was that they were very fast talkers and the man was a very slow thinker. It was only afterwards that she discovered her husband had bumped his mind in their favor.

And she’d been angry.

"Gene! We’re already doing something he thinks is wrong, that is illegal in every state, including West Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama, and especially dear old California, and you had to go and mind-rape him, too?" she’d yelled. "This wasn’t bad enough for you?"

He hadn’t responded then, she recalled.

And maybe it didn’t matter.

She was pretty sure it did, though.

It wasn’t as though they had a really healthy relationship, anyway. He’d busted her last boyfriend in the head when he’d found them in a nicely compromising position, and forbade her from seeing anyone else again.

She’d argued with him then. She had. And when he’d snuck into her room that night, she’d shoved him out the door.

Now he had her pinned against the same wall of the same dressing room he’d first taken her in, and she couldn’t bring herself to object at all.

Odd how time had changed things.

One day he was holding her down in a dressing room, angry and too turned on; the next she was sneaking into his room down the hall in nothing but her bathrobe; a year later they were standing in front of a mindwiped priest; three months later, they were being called to the Gibborim.

It was almost like they’d been justified with the last count.

For a few moments in the changing rooms of a local department store, though, it didn’t matter.
