The mirror in the bathroom shattered and Teddy set his book down.
"Babe? Are you okay?" he called.
A sob reached his ears.
"Baby?"
"No!"
The shapeshifter hurried down the hall and yanked the bathroom door open to find Billy kneeling in a sea of broken glass. His hand was bleeding and he was crying.
"Billy," Teddy began, and found himself frozen.
"Go away! Just go away!" Billy snapped.
Teddy knelt next to him. "Babe, I’m not going anywhere. What’s wrong?" He wrapped his arms around the spellcaster and pulled him to his chest.
"Go away. You’re gonna get cut," Billy said, trying to gain control over his voice.
"You’re bleeding," Teddy pointed out.
"It doesn’t matter. I’m just gonna die, anyway." Tears started down his face again, full force.
Teddy paused and looked at him. "Babe, let’s have this conversation somewhere else."
He scooped Billy up and carried him out to the couch.

It took him an hour to calm his boyfriend down. Once he succeeded, though, Billy wasn’t much better, nor was he any more inclined to tell Teddy what was wrong. Teddy sighed and ran his fingers through Billy’s hair.
"So, what brought that on?" Teddy asked. "Did the doctor tell you something yesterday?"
Dark, dark eyes met his. "Teddy, haven’t you noticed?" he asked. "I’m getting old. I’m going to die eventually."
"Babe, I’m going to die eventually, too," Teddy said gently. "And you’re barely twenty-four. You’ve got time."
Bily ran his non-bandaged hand over his hair.
His white-streaked hair.
Teddy stared.
They were silent.
"Look. I’ll understand if you want to go find yourself someone who’s less likely to die in combat, or has less white in their hair than me, or whatever," Billy said.
"Don’t you dare break up with me," Teddy said fiercely.
Billy stammered a bit. Teddy siezed him by the shoulders, a bit rougher than he’d intended.
"T-Teddy-"
"No. I love you. Don’t even start."
The shapeshifter pulled him into a long kiss.
"B-But…"
"No one and nothing could ever replace you," Teddy said. "I love you, Babe. White hair and all. Besides, you’re only twenty-four. That’s young enough for me."
