057: Family
He was being honest when he told her he didn’t want her to meet his family. They were, in his opinion, psychopaths. The last three girls he’d dated hadn’t stuck around after they’d met his father, let alone the rest of them.
Still, she begged.
“Please, Geoffrey! You’ve met my family!”
Nevermind that her family was largely sane and mostly happy. Nevermind that she’d gotten a sample through his mother. Nevermind that his father and most of his relatives lived many states away.
“At least let me talk to your dad on the phone!”
That was the worst idea he’d ever heard. His father’s philosophy on introductions was that if one couldn’t drag oneself a thousand miles to see him, one didn’t really want to meet him. And he didn’t travel.
“Then we’ll take a vacation. Get the weekend off.”
She could have fun with that. Geoffrey wasn’t going anywhere near his father or his extendeds. Reiterate that they’re nuts, and watch the show.
She usually dropped it after that. Usually. He was reasonably sure torture had been involved when he found himself crossing the state line into Minnesota. Catherine hummed along with the radio and smiled smugly to herself.
She would see. Very soon, she would see. And she would not like it. And Geoffrey would become a monk and never leave his catacomb.
