24: Rainbow
Leslie frowned very deeply at the girl sitting to her left. Frank frowned, very confused, at his wife’s immediate dislike of her.
“Les,” he mumbled.
She shushed him.
The girl got up to enter the office for her audition, spitting out her gum on the way in. Leslie turned to him.
“Frank,” she said cheerfully. “Let’s take a walk.”
“Um, okay.”
He followed her, more to keep out her line of fire than anything, and they stepped out into the street. She pulled him into an alley and shoved him up against a wall.
“Wow, Les. You don’t usually want to do it in alleys.”
She popped him on the head.
“Did you see that girl?” she demanded.
“Um, yes?”
“Do you know who she was?”
“Um, no?”
Leslie snarled. “Julie Power, of Power Pack! A two bit super hero in our town!”
“Oh.”
Frank had no clue who she was talking about, but he was willing to bet that it wouldn’t be good if this girl stayed, both for him and for the Pride.
“Well, what are we supposed to do about her?” he asked.
“Frank,” Leslie sighed. “She’s a starlet hopeful. We own the city. We crush her dreams.”
