06: Months
Dale groaned and ground his teeth. Stacey quietly ignored him and brushed hers. Several forlorn looks later, she finally turned around to see what the matter was.
“Yes, darling?”
He stared at her, eyes wide and hopeful. “How long did the doctor say?” he asked.
“Thirty days.”
“And how much longer?”
“Thirty days.”
He groaned again. “Do you think, maybe, we could cheat a little?”
“Do you want to die?”
He blanched. “Er, what?”
She raised two very pointed eyebrows at him. “You are not bringing that thing near me until I’ve properly healed.”
Dale adjusted his gaze so that he was watching her through his eyelashes. “Please?”
“No.”
She climbed into bed and switched off the light, plunging them into darkness. Dale sighed. He scooted over and slipped his arms around her and listened to her breath until he fell asleep.
