061: Would Of
He was late. He was always late. She was used to him being late, but she had thought he would’ve at least tried to be on time tonight.
Dale was a man who would be late to his own funeral.
He had been late to his cousin’s wedding, to his mother’s bedside, to his own birth, and now, he was late to the one date he’d sworn to be on time for.
He tapped on the door. She waited, debating. She almost didn’t answer it, but there wasn’t a whole lot of use in hiding, considering her car was outside and her roommate was gone. Dale tapped again and she sighed, made up her mind, and pressed the door panel.
It slid open. He stood in the hall, as decked out as he could be. She blushed and felt underdressed through her anger. Her simple black dress paled in her own eyes beside his suit.
"You’re late," she mumbled.
"I know," he replied, pain and apology coloring his voice.
"You promised."
"I know."
He reached out tentatively for her. She almost took a step back. His hand cupped her face and tilted it to him. She shook a little, but didn’t pull away when he kissed her.
