Stacey whimpered and flinched. "Ow," she said. "You’re hurting me!"
"Sorry."
He changed his grip and pulled the brush through her hair again, slower this time. She gritted her teeth and tried not to feel it.
"Damn pins," she lamented. "And that woman with the comb! Horrible."
He smoothed a lock of soft red hair between his fingers and paused. "Ah."
"What? What’s wrong?"
"Er… Nothing." He very carefully hid the bent strands at the base of her neck and silently prayed she’d never feel them. He was dead as the woman who’d broken them if she did.
"Dale."
He grinned and distracted her with a kiss. She blushed prettily and decided it wasn’t worth arguing.
