Cause of Death: Lateness

Astonishing X-Men #21 has been delayed from March to May. Astonishing X-Men #22 has been delayed from April to July.

If ever there was a call to justify trade-waiting? This is it. Hell, this is justification for sitting out the entire bloody run until it's completed and collected.Curiously, other examples include "All-Star Superman", "Authority" ( Read more... )

Astonishing is unsurprising, but someone needs to be beaten for saying it would be able to shift to a monthly format back in the fall.

ASS is also unsurprising, but disappointing since it's genuinely consistently good. Do you know when the next issue's due?

Authority is really surprising. I thought this book was intended to be bimonthly in order to accommodate Gene Ha? So what the hell happened?!?

Age of Bronze has pretty much taken a bronze age to come out all along. I really need to read the second trade.

That was Joss Whedon, IIRC - in fact, he'd said at the time that he didn't even know why the series had gone bimonthly in the first place, since the work was being done on time. No one's stepped in to take that any further, though.

According to the latest updates, ASS #7 (you know, they really should've checked that acronym...) is scheduled for March 14. But I wouldn't circle the calendar just yet. :)

Gene Ha happened, I suppose. :D Let's face it, bimonthly was a little optimistic for him. Then again, Wildcats is AWOL too, so either Jim Lee and Gene Ha both have deadline issues (not unthinkable) or Grant Morrison's finally cracking under the pressure.

God. If it weren't for the fact that everybody I know will be reading it, I'd be on the waiting-for-the-trade train with AXM. I hate to say, at this point, I wish Joss had just wrapped after the third arc.

The bitch of it is, it's probably not even Joss' fault, you know? Especially since he dropped the Wonder Woman movie. I can understand minor delays - Cassaday's slower than Droopy Dog after a tequila bender, but at least the art's pretty. When you get to a situation like this, though, it's time to drop the guy and find an artist who can deliver the goods on schedule.

Of course, the other rumor is that Marvel's deliberately drawing the last arc out because they haven't found a replacement team yet... which, unfortunately, I can totally see them doing. Especially since delays rarely (if ever) affect sales.

(BTW, Cause of Friendship - you give great X-Meta. :) My favorite so far is the issue 14 analysis when you discuss the desert scene; very intriguing take on it!)

You sure it's not Whedon's fault? (I suppose you're optimistic about Runaways' upcoming schedule) I thought Cassaday had been alternating his X-work with Planetary and another book for a little while. Then again, I think I recall that his Cap run was late, so maybe there's truth to it.

March 14th is a little optimistic for ASS, but it's also somewhat practical. Here's crossing fingers.

I think Morrison's pretty much got things under control. He is, after all, doing some of his best work these past couple years.

Well, Whedon went on record stating that the delays weren't his fault; I'm inclined to believe him, if only because Cassaday has a reputation for being infernally late. Joe Quesada, on the other hand, puts the blame on "a lot of little things" including Marts' departure. Hard to know what's really going on ATM, but still: you'd think they would've worked things out by now.

Re: Morrison, it's not the quality of the work I'm questioning, but whether he's actually putting out scripts for his many series in a timely fashion.
