Ah, the things we do in the name of low blood sugar...

After almost 23 years with Type I, I tend to not notice an insulin reaction until I've dropped below 50. In fact, I'm often able to function perfectly well until I reach that point--except, of course, for the minor detail of my brain turning into the neurological equivalent of Silly Putty. I wouldn't call my most memorable experience goofy so much as scary, if only because I don't remember it. I and my boyfriend at the time were on our way to a wedding, thus rather rushed -- I missed lunch, though it didn't occur to me at the time. I don't remember a good portion of it but by the time I'd come to, we'd missed the wedding, I'd been weeping, had removed my contacts, and dropped a sandwich on the floor of the car. I think I was generally avoiding being fed, much to my boyfriend's chagrin. I felt very foolish upon waking, and that was before I realized all that happened. Eeep.

When my sugar drops to 80, I start getting that hungry feeling in my stomach. Then at 76, I start feeling really weird like I had a few drinks and shaky. If it drops to 70, look out, I am so drunk, I can hardly stand up. You actually feel drunk and want to fall over and pass out ( ... )

Well, there have been several times when I've been running around with no clothes on when all the curtains and blinds are open. One time my boyfriend asked me what I wanted to eat to take care of the low blood sugar, and I picked up my cat and said I was going to eat her. (Boyfriend took the cat away from me and put her out in the yard where he figured she'd be safer until I felt better!)
