The whole damn backstory was nagging at me. There had to be a reason for Max to leave and then, bam, he, uh, decided he wanted to fuck Linke instead of Juri.

I'm just not quite getting why he's so sure that Wolf is just what Juri needs.

He's not sure at all. Max is just making it up as he goes. He saw Wolf, had a "no, it can't be" moment, and decided he wanted to talk to him for five minutes. Halfway through the story, Max realized he didn't have a shit-ass reason for talking to Wolf so he twisted it around and added in something he thought Wolf would want to hear. Wolf came from Juri's house so his parents might be around and Max isn't going to chance an encounter after all this time. Max kinda looks after himself first, dontcha know.
