I agree. I think DVDs full of extras and fold-outs etc are the way of the future for the movie and music industries. Pirating is the inevitable. The only way to fight it is by making collectibles.

Of course, the extras will inevitably end up pirated too. But the people who really want the good stuff will pay, I think. It's the collectibles that matter. Make the basic stuff available and the interesting, rare stuff hard and that's your money base.

Not that I have any experience in the industry. Honestly, I might just be trying to rationalize my own pirating heart.

But. Disney should put some good fucking extras on that dvd, I think. Personally, I'm just going to rent it at some RedBox first and then we'll go from there. (I still haven't seen it. But I do love James Frain.)

Aren't some game systems able to play blu-rays? (Xbox 360 and PS3 if I'm not mistaken) But still, it's the principle. It's like if they stopped publishing paperbacks and only sold ebooks.

It is the same idea, you're right. The people they should be working to please are the people who have already read their books and want to put some fine paperbacks on their shelves. For the feeling of completeness more than anything else.

I actually do think that if most art is free but greatness is rewarded with money from the truly devoted, good art should generally thrive even more. I'm not sure if that's a deluded idea or not.
