When I first started making videos I had a lot of help. But it was a tv show fandom that I was vidding and everyone I knew captured video from a capture card or got it from a friend that was converting the episodes for us. When I decided I wanted to make movie vids, I knew no one that knew how to do it. I had never heard the word ripping. I had to find everything on the internet and learn it from scratch. Confusion, trial and error, frustration, you name it. I've also had times where the ripping and conversion methods I was using stopped working due to problems my computer developed. I spent a solid week last year trying one conversion method after another until I finally found something I could import into my editing program.
Cutting clips is tedious, boring and time-consuming. We spend a lot of time choosing transitions, filters and tweaking the brightness etc., finding extra frames that sneak in and cutting them out. How dare anyone think our work is just there for the taking. :-(
I absolutely agree with you. As I've said before...I don't mind if someone uses my vid to PRACTICE editing for the first time, but they can NOT use my vid as their source for their finished product (not that anyone has wanted to).
I hope more people get into vidding, but NOT at the expense of the vidders who have worked hours and hours upon hours ripping and editing. My gawd how I hate ripping...I sure as hell don't want anyone else getting off the hook that easily ;)
You, my dear, are wonderful. You've worded that wonderfully and I could not agree more. It's all about the fun and joy of it, don't let them steal your joy. :)
