trolling youtube and myspace and such for the video was the first thing i thought of after we (me & front desk) realized there was no security tape, and after the cop said mine was just a simple assault case that wouldn't go very far...

I used to do that - carry my keys between my knuckles when I'd be on campus late.. Of course, I'm just a really paranoid individual..

I can't believe all that happened to you, that's just really F-ing sad that people do this. I could think of a million other things to be doing with my time that DON'T involve trying to beat up random strangers for no reason. I just don't get it.

That's awful - I can't believe the cops won't do anything about an organized assault like that just because "oh well you weren't hospitalized no big deal". Especially in a city so plagued by violent repeat offenders, chances are this isn't the only thing these guys have ever done, and if people think they can get away with this crap, they're only going to be emboldened to do more. Hell, this is as likely to be some sort of gang initiation or something as a "stupid dare" - they weren't all wearing a specific color or anything, were they? (Cops might give more of a shit if it IS gang-related.) I hope the bastards post it on youtube so they can catch them.

And what the hell is the point of a security camera if it's not recording after dark? WTF.

I'd love to send the fucking cavalry after these twerps but I kinda understand the issue -- without a better description on my part, and without actual video, there's not a lot the cop could do by himself and not a lot of "word" to "spread" once he got back to his precinct.

I think I recall a blue shirt and a green shirt, so while I wouldn't be surprised if this were a rite of some sort I'm not leaning that way.

Too many people in building management have told me they "didn't know" the recorder was not recording. Infuriating. And the camera in question was pointed right at the spot where this happened... gaaah!
