Today I ran in the 3 Mile Smile in Cleveland Heights. I managed to control my obsession with round numbers and cross the finish line in 24:59. A new personal best! So far I'm two-for-two in 5Ks in terms of both crossing the finish line and (more importantly) getting the t-shirt ( Read more... )

Thank you! I didn't sneak -- everyone could hear me coming. From the wheezing.

I didn't actually indulge in the beer (it was barely ten a.m.), but I was really disappointed that I didn't win one of the twenty bottles of wine they were raffling off. You know, for something ostensibly health-related, they really soaked the event in alcohol . . .

Well, you know what I always say, beats having a stingray plunge its sharp, envenomed barb deep into your heart . . .

Thank you. I don't know how masochistic I am really, especially considering that I keep trying to spread this running thing around . . .

Oh, fine. Fine. I was hoping to procrastinate long enough that I wouldn't have to go for a run today (why start now, when I've procrastinated so beautifully for the last.....well, ever since I got back from the trans-Siberian trip, actually?). But I can see I'm going to be goaded into it by your insistence on setting records for me to tilt at. I suspect my time over a 3-mile course, at peak fitness, would be at least 25:30 (and today, I'll be lucky to do it in half an hour).

All of which is to say, congrats! Very impressed! (So much so that's it's bringing out my latent competitive tendencies....)

I would be hard-pressed to run this sort of time without the competition. I continue to be surprised by my results in these races! Maybe you'd surprise yourself too . . .

Congratulations! The beer sounds weird though, surely it's a really bad idea to drink alcohol when you're that dehydrated?

To be fair, the bottled water was a lot more popular than the beer. The bananas were a lot more popular than the beer. The bagels were a lot more popular than the beer. The beer wasn't moving very much at all.

The last time I tried doctoring my dehydration with copious amounts of alcohol, I got into a very tedious argument with dlgood.
