I'm peeling the banana from both ends today. I've decided that this should be a new idiom, a complement to the frayed, frazzled lucubration of "burning the candle at both ends," a zesty, breakfasty metaphor for eagerly embracing the day. Not that I'm zesty or eagerly embrachial, just inspired by one of Steve Landsburg's Slate articles (pointed out ( Read more... )

Speaking of crank theories (and particularly ironic in light of this entry's icon):

There's a full, half-hour version, but who has the time?

So, he rests his case on a hybrid that's been being cultivated for 7,000 years, one that due to its human-engineered sterility must be reproduced via un-Christian cloning? Well, I suppose it does show evidence of a designer. I'm most disappointed to find that apparently God did not mean my had to hold a banana:

"Hand" rather than "had," should it not be obvious in context.

Seems to me it was ideally designed for a chimp, thus proving evolution!

Evidently the Christian right (or as I like to think of them, the Christian wrong) thought that March of the Penguins was a perfect example of intelligent design. Evidently having to go back and forth 70 or more miles of frozen wasteland is an example of intelligence.

Greetings! Just wandered by my info page and noticed your arrival there. Fans of John Sladek are always welcome, we're so few and far between, it seems :)

I suppose it would be obvious that I arrived there via Sladek, he being the least common of the least common denominators in our interests. It should be noted though that I decided to stay because reading down your front page caused me to add two books (Lint and the Will Cuppy) to my Amazon shopping cart.

I would have guessed that we crossed paths somewhere in a Making Light comment page, but Sladek is an even more enjoyable random connection. I hope you enjoy both books. Lint was barely a blip in the bookstores, but I got a tremendous kick out of it. And Cuppy is always good.

I've noticed that gorillas eat their bananas without peeling them. While I don't recommend it, I don't argue face-to-face with gorillas either.

I like the expression, but abhor soft bananas. As for the strings -- faugh! I detest them.

GYm sounds useful, and thank you for (belatedly) visiting the eye doctor (she remarks hopefully.) No worries about my request for basement level assistance on the picture things. I hadn't been on LJ yet at that point.

best, Angela
