I just took the Little One into the pet hospital -- it appears to be the same problem he had two years ago. This time, though, I caught it a lot quicker, which might be for the best but had I instead waited until tomorrow morning, I could have taken him to my regular vet, who I suspect is a lot cheaper. I've never really had to weigh a pet against ( Read more... )

Oh no, how awful. And yes, it's terrible to have to consider whether or not one can afford to treat an ill pet. I've been there a few times, and it's never fun.

Thank you. I must admit that though I was shocked at the estimate, it's not something I can't afford, really, so it's not like I'm choosing whether or not to go hungry.

It's a hard thing, isn't it? I had to make that kind of choice years ago, when one of my cats fell off the roof and broke her spine..they said they could do surgery, but the prognosis was very iffy. If they'd said I could have fixed her for sure, I'd have spent the money without a second thought. Last year I was looking after a friend's cat, and ended up spending well over a thousand dollars on her, and she wasn't really mine. But if you love your cats, you do what you must for them. My cats are my kids.
I hope he recovers quickly, and that it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg..

Well, since I found this cat when he was three or four weeks old, in a sense he's very much mine in a way that my two others, who actually like me and climb into my lap and treat me with love and respect, aren't. Thank you; your second story puts mine in a bit of perspective!

Sounds a lot like my relationship w/Lil, incl. how she got her name (the li'l kitten, li'l critter, etc.). She even had a urinary blockage a little over a year ago, though it was never a close call.

I know how hard it can be when the time comes--I went through that w/my 2 previous cats--& how scary it can be when you don't know. I hope your Little One recovers quickly, w/not too much expense, & spends many more standoffish years w/you (or even gets a little more friendly)!

Aww, it's so hard. We have our happy, healthy cat, but it cost us a bazillion dollars, and there was never any guarantee.

You have our best wishes, and our crossed fingers, and I hope you don't have too many hard decisions ahead of you.

Give me a call, let me know how he is. I'll be home all day, except I have to go to a Christmas party at 6:30, so I'll leave at 6:15

Thank you.

I need to wear my glasses. I was looking at your icon and (I just got back from the dive shop) I thought it was an overhead shot of one of the atolls at Palau!
