I haven't done one of those gratuitous icon posts for a while, having spent very little time making icons recently (though more time making icons than updating my LJ). Here are a few userpics I've made in the last few months.

The strange thing is I didn't even have to download this episode to get the screencap:

The second one is wonderful.

I don't know how others make borders, but the few I have I have just used brushes or colouring and filled in the couple of pixels at the edge leaving the center blank. I then just slide that over what ever icon I have made. You can also select around the edges and blur the outside section around the select. I have swiped a few borders also and adapted them too.

"Brushes" are one of those things I've heard about, like "masking" and "tinytext."

I still don't know what masking is lol! Well you know, except for Masq. And beware, tinytext just causes wank so don't go there.

Aw. Zoidberg. The poodle gun. The DP. Shayera in bondage. It hits all my geek buttons and then some.

I think you've tainted my reading of this icon.

Thank you!

If I'm making my own screencaps then I open the .avi video file with VirtualDub. This allows me to view the video frame by frame -- I use Window's alt-PrntScrn function to copy a snapshot of the VirtualDub window to my clipboard and then paste that into a Photoshop Elements 2 project. Everthing else is done in Elements; it's a phenomenally powerful program and it was phenomenally free.

Excellent!! Last time I priced it it was virtually $80- but I'm likeing the prices I'm NOT seeing on VirtualDub! Thanks for the tip!

Well, this is Elements 2, rather than the brand-new Elements 3, and Elements 2 was being included with various digital cameras or scanners, so some people who bought a lot of picture equipment ended up with multiple copies and were giving extras away.

Ask around, you might find someone with an extra disc, or a disc he or she would be willing to lend.
