Adam Cadre:When I was in college, there was an absolutely amazing pizza place in town called Zachary's. Calling it pizza is actually somewhat misleading, since the legendary stuffed pies at Zachary's have little to do with Neapolitan flatbread and nothing at all to do with the space-age polymers served up at Domino's. I have had places like this. Places where the particular item of culinary delight was so enticing that I couldn't keep away from them. Like the little coffee shop in the Plaka in Athens, where Iannis, a charming wee fellow with a huge handlebar moustache, prepared the most incredible rizogalo (rice pudding) every day. While I lived in Athens, I think I went there every day for the better part of a year for that rizogalo. I still dream about it from time to time, even though it's been 20 years since I last had any.

It's so painful when places and things you want to do that with are all too expensive or unhealthy :-(

And I remember driving miles to eat at Zachary's. Miles and miles, across water even. I remember my first bite of Zachary's--a cold slice of left over pizza, loaded with cheese and garlic, lots of garlic. Love at first bite. Lunch at Zachary's after spending all night on a flight back from China, fueling up for a cross country drive. Oh, I miss Zachary's.

Yes. My response was, "Ten minutes? I ate at Zachary's twice a week when it was a forty-five minute drive!"
