My Heart's Desire by Kate Silver: I liked it. It had cross-dressing Musketeers and a revenge plot. I love Miriame's no non-sense attitude.

Thérèse Dragon: It's a BD. I don't know how to feel about it. On the one hand, it's very confusing (she's insane? Or possibly not? Or something), on the other hand, it introduced me to Thérèse

Hooray for Benjamin January! It's odd, but the name-changing thing never really bothered me. I can see why it would stand out to you, though.

It probably doesn't help that my copy is formatted weirdly/has some typos. When does Rose show up?

Rose, alas, doesn't show up until the second book, but is pretty much immediately a main character. (It's not quite love-at-first-sight, but by the end of their first meeting, Ben is very much going "OMG YOU'RE SO COOL BE MY FRIEND LET'S HANG OUT PLZ LIKE ME".)
