Comics!

This evening I patronised my local comic book store. It's been ages since I went and I want to buy ALL OF THE THINGS. I have (so far) restricted myself to one comic for me and one as a gift for someone else. (I'm going to go back and buy more stuff for me -- as long as I'm also buying people gifts, it's not being selfish.)

It's odd : I don't remember anyone predicting that the rise of the internet would result in physical books becoming more beautiful, but it has. I remember lots of 'end of books' predictions but that hasn't happened at all : people still want stuff, not just bytes, but they want it to be more gorgeous to explain its retro stuffness, I suppose!

I had an inkling that it might -- pretty soon almost all I was buying was comics and/or illustrated books, ie stuff with a value added by something other that the text -- but I am very pleasantly surprised by it!
