ARRGH! %@#*^#%

Well, I was complaining to some friends last night that it was hot. I admitted that I don't handle it as well some days. So, I attributed my increasingly unfortable feeling to just me having a rough day ( Read more... )

Aww, I totally sympathize. I am sitting here now sweating to death. It's 57 outside so the air won't run, but it is 81 degrees in my room. Open the window, you say? Yeah, I'll do that. I'll have to cover my water because the smell from outside will get in my room. My dad put in a retaining wall next to the driveway - did it himself to save money, of course. I think that the support wood underneath it has rotted and gotten wet and is moldy - at least that is what it smells like. Ugh - it gets into my room and my clothes. It's awful, but if I don't open my window, the temperature will actually get hotter. I don't get it.

On the plus side for you - only a $40 part and you don't need a new air conditioner!

Oh god, I was SO miserable. I haven't felt that heat-sick in quite a while. If the repair service hadn't been able to come out, I was fully prepared to check into a hotel until Tuesday!

Yeah, it was a $40 part, but that didn't include the cost of the 'service call'. Although, I will admit that even that fee was less than I expected. It turns out the company I called charges the same for service call regardless of when it is - nights, weekends, holidays, it's doesn't matter. It's a flat service fee. *files their number away for future reference*

I didn't say anything about the labor costs because I knew that could be hefty. I'm amazed you found someone whose charges don't vary for the weekend or holidays. Definitely write that company's number down. My dad lets us all suffer before he'll call any service people on a weekend.

Labor charges can be hefty. I was lucky that it was a simple fix. And as I said, their servica call fee wasn't as high as it could have been.

Unfortunately, my little house doesn't have a basement. Otherwise I probably would have camped out on its hopefully cool cement floor. *lol*

The repair was actually simple and easy. I was lucky that I found a repair service that sends technicians out no matter the hour or day! I've filed their number away for future reference. :D

Of all times for your A/C to break down. I'm very glad you got a repairman on a Sunday but especially on a holiday weekend.

Now that the A/C is fixed, I suggest you keep the fans running to move the cool air until your house cools down, especially your bedroom since you are not feeling good.

Sorry you developed a headache; I understand that plus not feeling well at all. I hope you are okay when you wake up.

I was so lucky to find a listing in the yellow pages for a repair service that will come out no matter the day or hour. And, their service call fee is the same, whether it's on a Wednesday afternoon, or a holiday weekend! I've filed their number away for future reference. :)

I had all the ceiling fans, a boxy floor fan, and an oscillating pedestal fan going all night. The oscillating one is in my bedroom and there's a ceiling fan. I set the floor fan so that it directed air into the bedroom. Everything worked so well, I actually pulled up my light blanket at some point during the night.

So, yes, I have cooled down quite a bit and I feel a lot better than I did last night. :)

I'm lost without my A/C in this kind of heat! So I'm real glad to have it back working. :D

Yes, I'm in South Texas, but it looks like the worst of the storm is going to hit around Brownsville. According to the news we have a flash flood warning for tomorrow, but we're not acutally in the TS warning area. Bottom line - a lot of rain (maybe 3") but not the brunt of the storm.

Ugh I remember when the A/C would stop working at my apartment but both times it was just the switch had flipped. Plus, the one time they came out to fix it, the apartment managers paid for it.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. Bleh.

Unfortunately, having to pay for repairs goes along with home ownership. But, sometimes things work out better than expected, like this time. I'm just grateful I found someone willing to fix on a holiday weekend, and that it wasn't too expensive.

I haven't been able to bring myself to return the thermostat to its normal setting yet, though. *lol*
