Thank you.

This was a little unusual for me. While I like some angst in my fics, I don't think I've written anything this sad before. I know it was hard to read - it was hard to write. But the muse demanded it. I'm glad it turned out well.

wonderful and thank you
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Your continued support and encouragement is appreciated.

Awesome! As always, you amaze me with your talent and ideas. It was nice to see MacKenzie as I always saw him instead of being written as a total douche bag. What Janet said to Daniel about his 'attraction' to her was dead on. I always felt that there was something there on his part but most Sam/Janet writers ignore it. Killing Cassie was the perfect premise to see such a dark side to Janet as well. And your characterization of Jack was perfect.

Thank you, it's very kind of you to say so. :)

The members of SG-1 never cared for MacKenzie and his methods, so I think some writers grabbed onto that and began to vilify MacKenzie. I admit that it's so easy to do with him (and wouldn't be surprised if I go there myself in a story sometime), but just because the soldiers at the SGC don't like him (or what he stands for) doesn't mean he doesn't care about his patients.

What Janet said to Daniel about his 'attraction' to her was dead on. I always felt that there was something there on his part but most Sam/Janet writers ignore it.
I fully confess that my portrayal of Daniel's attraction really has nothing to do with what I saw on the show. It is purely my visceral reaction to the rather popular 'Dan/Jan' ship. I can't stand it. I'd rather see Janet with anyone but him. I don't hate Daniel as a character, but I cant stand that ( ... )

Your visceral reaction to Dan/Jan. I am so desperate for anything featuring Janet that I read all of her 'ships', including Daniel, but I have to admit, if I can't have Sam/Jan, I like Jack/Jan best, if only for the humor.

As for it not being a part of canon, the explanation is simple. During a convention, Michael Shanks and Teryl Rothery admitted that a 'ship' was something that had been discussed for their characters and they both waited patiently for it to happen but TPTB killed her off instead.

I'd rather see Janet with Jack than with Daniel. And yes, it's because of the inherent humor in that pairing! Although, I've not read much of it, since I really don't read much het fic.

Oh, I know about the 'ship' discussions. I also know Teryl said she and Michael played on the supposed subtext between them. But I wear blinders when watching the show because I dislike it so much. I'm not normally such an 'anti-ship' person. I can't think of another ship in any fandom that repulses me like Dan/Jan does. *shrugs*

I'm so glad you liked it, especially since it was your prompt. *grin* This was a lot more angsty than anything else I've written, but I was hoping some people would still like it.

I couldn't have said it better. This story did grab hold of me. While I wrote this I had to put aside my on-going X-Files fic, Dana's Malakim, because the muse refused to let me concentrate on anything else. The muse made me take Janet on this journey, and I'm glad she did.
