Fic: Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here) for westernredcedar

Title: Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here)
Author: wanderlight
Recipient: westernredcedar
Prompt: Regulus.

Notes: Sorry for the delay! Title from the Porcupine Tree song of the same name. such_heights betaed this in its early stages. What it was is barely recognisable now, but this story never would have been told without her encouragement, so thank her, too! ♥

Travelling to nowhere -- it suspends Regulus in a safe cocoon spun from in-between places. )

Oh, Regulus! This is sad in such a lovely way. Very nicely done study of Regulus. Each section is complete, yet they work together so well.

Oh oh oh my goodness! Thank you!! This is gorgeous. I am so fascinated with Regulus, and I love the character you portray here.
I adore the complex ties you develop between Regulus and Sirius in such short order. Gah! Their fight, and how horrid James looks through Regulus's eyes. Oh, he loves Sirius so much it hurts. So good. He knows his brother's weak spots. Yes.
I also really like your use of the train metaphor. Regulus's life does hurtle like a train to it's terrible conclusion (in my mind) and the fact that he takes trains and doesn't know where they are going?? That is a beautiful symbol for his life.
I am thrilled with this, and will be pimping you properly for it. :)
I need a Regulus icon, like now.
Oh, and the Eliot is pure love.

Thank you for opening the doors of possibility & throwing them wide with your prompt! :) I think you picked up on every single thing I was trying to accomplish, too -- the train metaphor especially -- so I'm glowing a little now. (Also, Eliot is love, is he not?)

Regulus, for me, never comes without Sirius; who he is and what he ends up as is inextricably connected with Sirius' story, whether he likes it or not. In any case. Thank you for your kind words. :* ♥

It's the train fic!!! ♥ ♥ Oh wow, I'm so pleased to see this!

I love all three of them - the horror next to the mundane of the first one, the heartbreak of the second, and the crushing inevitability of the final segment. And throughout, all the little details that make Regulus so real, and the style and tone and feel of it all.

If it hadn't been for you, this honestly wouldn't have seen the light of day. ♥ (Unfortunately, your Regulus fic will not be posted until after my internet-less week, but it is coming!)

I am v. glad that the sections worked; I fought a bit with the placement and finally settled on doing it that way. You are too good to me. :*

Thank you too! It sounds like you were key to getting this written, and I am so thrilled with it. Yay!

Hee! All I did was read it a very long time and then never leave Rita in peace until she finished it. :D I am glad I don't love this in isolation any more.

Oh, very lovely, a diffident Regulus, with mixed feelings (and perhaps a dose of realism) about the amount of choice he has in his life. (Sirius is rather naive on this issue, I've always thought.) The train metaphor is very apt here. Brava! Maggie

Thank you so much, Maggie. Choice was one of the ideas I wanted to explore here, so I'm glad it worked. :) (And you're right; Sirius is a bit naive on this issue, though I'm realising that maybe, by not paying any attention to his boundaries, he managed to leap them entirely.) In any case, again, thank you. ♥
