I got the impression from Madarao's reaction to Link's being there--"What is a Crow doing here?"--to mean that Madarao isn't a part of Crow but a different part of Central.

And to me their techniques seemed totally different, because Link uses spell cards for everything and Madarao merely had to invoke his arm. When Link said he could put the akuma out of commission, I took him to mean he could damage it enough so the exorcists could finish it off and he could get Timothy and everyone to safety. After Madarao absorbed the Level 3, Link was astonished, had obviously never seen anything like that before, and said, "He destroyed the akuma?!"

Ooohh. I forgot about his spell cards. >w<; Maybe Link and Madarao are using different techniques to produce a banishing vortex ( ... )

Ah, that would make more sense if it's Link saying it. And maybe Link is simply a lower level than Madarao, which is why he requires the cards. He is only 19, and Madarao looks like he'd be older. And we already know Madarao's an extremely skilled sorcerer just from his being able to break through the barrier and get inside to everyone.

Nope, that's exactly the chapter I was referring to. The version I'd read didn't say "banish," that's why I was under the assumption he meant damage.

I'm more curious as to who Madarao is. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but Link seems to know him as more than just a comrade, like they're related somehow.

Link is only 19? I had no idea. He looks older. Where did you find this?

Madarao reminds me of Madao from Gintama, whose name has an... amusingly negative meaning to it XD

I have unfortunately nothing much to contribute to the discussion, except that Link and Madarao are most likely both Crow(s). The Crow uniform in chapter 168 reminds me a lot of Madarao's uniform (the "diamond" pattern wise), and I'd think they won't cover up their face in public like they did in Black Order |D
I had initially thought Madarao wasn't part of Crow, but after re-reading it again it seemed possible Link could be the one asking the question, so I dug through tons of previous chapter to find the Crow uniform to satisfy my curiosity even though it's 5+ am now >.>;;

As for the theory, I was thinking that Link's technique had some similarities to Madarao's with the whole vortex sorta thing too. I'm glad someone else saw this similaity :D

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one seeing a similarity too. I'm excited for the next chapter to find out more on this vortext technique. >w

I guess they have adjustable uniforms or just more than one, and they were covering their faces so carefully during the incident at the Black Order, because they didn't want the people they were investigating to know who they were incase they wanted to lash out at them later.

I don't who this Madao guy is from Gintama. So, I looked him on Google Images and I think he looks a lot more like Cross Marian! X3

At moment it too soon to tell. I doubt that Madaros arm has anything to do with innocence or Links spells though. After all he managed to get through the barrier that prevents humans from passing through it, but the girl he was with didn't even try. Maybe he the result from experiments that the order did or something. I dunno, like mix an akuma and human together to make them super powerfull. Then again I'm probably way off

"Maybe he the result from experiments that the order did or something. I dunno, like mix an akuma and human together to make them super powerfull."

Yeah, I stated something similar in my second paragraph that maybe some sort of fake innocence or something was created in an experiment and maybe by a science department. Maybe Madarao is a user of this fake innocence like weapon? http://www.onemanga.com/D.Gray-Man/181/11/ looks like there is a sphere like glowing object suspended in his arm. The thought went through my mind that maybe this has something to do with his weapon at least..? But the new chapter is coming out soon, and maybe we'll get some more info soon on Madarao or at least a good fight scene! =D

OMGosh! That sounds like Claymore! XD I love Claymore! <3 <3 <3
