What Drives An Entreprener?

Ok the title says pretty much all of it. Why do people start their own business? So far I have been thinking about this. There are many things that come into play here. Feeling of success, money, power, recognition by the others, desire to be happy at work, an idea to make the world a better place to live etc.

well I think that only certain percentage of startups succeed and your observation just means that there are way fewer startups who are going for the exit strategy directly and more of those who are in there for the passion.

No startup is going for an exit strategy. There is a point in any business plan: we want to take this % market share or we want to create a new market and take 90% of it and go IPO; if we fail we are going to get acquired by a big competitor. The last part is an exit strategy. "Exit" here, meant to be an exit for investor, in other words payday when investors get their money back + something on top.

I just meant "hey, we are going to create a company and ultimatly become rich and make you rich as well as an investor" fails far more often than "hey, we got this great idea that will make world a better place to live".
