[It's a little surprising she lasted ten more years with how she'd worn down her life (and she wasn't as healthy now as she used to be). But there she was, out of uniform but with Mugen on her hip. Sitting on a bench across from an open door in one of the Dressing Room hallways, watching it.

A door that was supposed to take her home.]

... It would depend. [She'd be taking the chance for him, after all.]

If I stayed or not?

[A nod. There wasn't a whole lot of reason to if he wasn't--most of the people she knew were bound home, if they hadn't already left before.]

And if you never got to go home again, never got to finish up your role in the war... would you be okay with that?

... I don't know. [Tilts her head, glancing over his shoulder at nothing in particular.] But I probably don't have a lot of time left here.

[So it just doesn't feel like she won't, when she'll die off naturally. Would it really bring her back to life then, or would her soul move on without going back home?

... Or would she just be stuck here?]

[Lavi is honestly worried about that, too. Will the Dressing Room let people die of old age? Of natural causes? Or will they exist in this space, bringing brought back to life again and again and again]

[Both situations seem pretty awful. On one hand, if she could die, that's just more time he has to live without her without even a job he hates to distract him from her absence. On the other hand, he doesn't know if he'd ever get used to seeing Yupunzel revive again and again. He just wanted for her to be happy and pain free. And he wanted her to be able to see the other people she loved again, too]

Love.

[Kisses her jawline, trying to get her attention so he can place a proper kiss on her lips]

If you stay, I'll stay.

[Looks back at him, kissing back when he does.]

I'd only stay if you were. [It's not that she has a problem going back to her world. She'd just like to take the chance to stay with Lavi a little longer if he was going to linger.]

... [He wants to linger. He wants to so bad he can taste it. The thought of being with Yupunzel for however long she had. It was probably a miracle that she had lived to this age, lived to see her 30th birthday]

[But he still had things he had to do at home. Promises to keep. Obligations to uphold, and ugh... he didn't want to do any of it. He wanted to stay with her, his life, his love, his everything]

[Rests his forehead lightly against hers]

If you could...

...

Would you come home with me?

[Blinks. That had never been offered as a possibility before.] What?

Would you come home with me? Live with me?

Til death do us part and all that.

--How? You have a job, they'd probably still recognize me and you already have a Kanda back home, and if you're not putting off your duties then I shouldn't either and--[There were so many problems with doing it, how would that work?]

Simple. We walk through the door together. And who cares if they recognize you? You're an Exorcist. An extra hand. One that can kick the crap out of Level 4's; I'm sure Komui would be thrilled to have you and keep the both of us busy enough to dodge Central for a while. And who cares about the Kanda in my world or what he thinks? He's prickly and standoffish and would rather spend time with Lenalee or Marie or Daisya... who we have to save, by the way.

And you've done your time. You were able to get away from the Order in your world. You chose to go back out of your own free will.

How is that so different from choosing to go back with me?

[That just seems way too idealistic to her. People only accepted crazy shit like copies here because they had to--that wouldn't be the same in their own worlds.

--Well, sort of. Because Yupunzel wasn't the only one from hers that recalled the Dressing Room through dream who'd been here.]

I don't know.

[Of course it is idealistic. Way too idealistic. Bringing Yupunzel home would cause all sorts of problems that could drastically affect the future of Lavi's world]

[But he doesn't care about that. All he cares about is that he gets to be with her for the few more months, years, however long she has. And for that time, he won't have to be alone]

I'll give you time to think about it.

[Presses her face into his scarf, gripping at his coat.] I hate having to choose this.

[Because any choice they make is going to suck somehow.]
