retaliation?: His wings act as a shield, and also act as huge razors. He has a broadsword that he can summon (though it takes some incantation to recall it, which may just cost him valuable time). Other than that, lest he pulls out the Fourteenth, it's just brute force.

death?: I'm going to say if it happens, it happens. If he does die, or at least come very close to it, it's likely to bring out the Fourteenth in order to preserve the host.

Crowallen will be far less likely to depend on the Fourteenth, since Crowallen's "Subject Fourteen" is actually just a split-personality rather than a completely different entity. But he'll definitely make to kill Kanda for you :3

...and the more I think about it, the more I think Red'll probably still try to detain Kanda, even if the Fourteenth is in control at the time. But, eh, it's still iffy. We'll just have to play it by ear, methinks, for Red.
