I had a kinda busy/kinda productive couple of days (with help from a couple of people). But I can't shake the feeling that there was something planned for today that I forgot to write down.

It's true about DST (I found a good book on the subject, when I later handed off to
vvalkyri).

As for the disk drive orientations, newer drives don't care at all. And older drives,
just reformat 'em if you're unsure.

one thought is that tower-unit cd-rom drives don't have the same locking center circle piece that laptops and modern desktops have, so it would be impossible to get a cd into the drive 'cause it would keep slipping off.
