our next stop after the vineyard was rome. we made the mistake of driving there on an "ecological sunday" which means that you can't drive anywhere in the historic center during the day. since the hotel we made reservations at was in campo dei fiori, in the historic center, this posed some problems. compound that with the general spiderweb-like ( Read more... )

yay i've been all these places. i hope they have the doors open at the vatican so you can see all the carvings. and the sistine chapel is amazing.

yes! there's almost too much in there - sensory overload - and it's so difficult to really capture just how truly massive everything is in st. peter's

oh WOW... everything looks so beautiful! These are some great shots. You've really got to hand it to the sidewalk chalkers; making something beautiful just out in the elements like that....
your gelateria(? did I just make up a word?) picture reminded me of when I went there, years ago- I had a strict policy of eating gelato at least once a day. hey, I'm all about discipline.
This must have been an amazing trip!

yeah venice is similar I realized and forgot but after looking at that map, Im glad we didnt do the car thing :)

yes, you should be! in fact i think you really don't need a car in italy at all if you're just going to the big cities. the only places it proved useful was for out of the way things like the vineyard.

"sopra" means "over" in italian - the church got its name because it was built on top of the foundations of a temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva - gotta love those early catholics ;)
