привет! My дед, my grandfather, says I am to be here. He says I spend too much time on my studies, alone, and too little about with people. It will be good for me, he says, to spend time without my family, out of the company of a tired old man, and with people my own age. It is to be a learning experience ( Read more... )

*grins and starts speaking in rapid Russian* It's good to meet someone else from the Mother Land -- I only knew myself and my brother, before. I'm Colin, by the way.

*answers in kind, of course, as it's nearly his first language* The Mother Land? I doubt we are from the same planet.

So few people speak this language any more. Hello, Colin. Who is your brother?

Well -- half-brother. Alexei Dolohov. We grew up together, though. Are you not from Russian?

From where? I grew up on my grandfather's SkyPlex. It orbits Ezra.

*smiles brightly at him; in slightly accented Russian* Good evening! My name is Aria Lecter. *offers her hand and switches back to English, still slightly accented* My Papa is actually the same way-- I would like nothing more than to stay at home with him and Mama, but he has decided that I have not seen enough of the world! And here I am.

I am delighted to meet you. You speak my language? Few people do where I am from. *takes her hand and kisses it; knows etiquette is important* Let us hope they are not both wrong; there must be good things to see. *this is flirting, believe it or not*

At home, we mostly speak Italian and Spanish, but I know simple phrases from many different languages. We have moved a lot. *looks pleased at the hand-kiss* Papa is never wrong! He may be unsure at times, but he is never wrong.

You speak those languages? Would you speak to me in them? I have never heard much of them. *smiles a bit; this is the sort of person he hoped he would meet* дед is rarely wrong either, but he is never unsure.

*pauses a moment* Mary Hades. Wrath will suffice, however.

*where there are languages, there is the rather geeky demigoddess Pendergast* *and lo, in flawless Russian* What is it you are looking to learn?

*wow, everyone speaks Russian here* All sorts of things. Whatever I can will be precious, Grandfather says.

*speaks all sorts of things that lead to her typist O_Oing...!* If I can assist you, just let me know. *and headtilts* What is your grandfather's business?

*does too! and his typist apologizes deeply to anyone who speaks Russian or Chinese and sees her butchering it!* I shall. Who should I call upon? *and brightens, because if there's one thing he gets excited about, it's his grandpa* Grandfather is in charge of many operations. He manages shipments of cargo and ensures that people get what they need.

*ah! an accent she knows! this would be an extremely excited and as bubbly as a 4'10" 18-year-old girl dressed in a leather miniskirt and a torn tshirt and torn fishnets (let's not forget the eyeliner, too) can get* Welcome! You are from Russia! *wide grin* I am Dhyana. *and greets him in Bulgarian, which, because Dani has no idea (just that Mimi uses Russian characters sometimes for Bulgarian), we will say is extremely similar, if not almost exactly the same, to Russian*

*I think Bulgarian and Russian are about as similar as Dutch and German-- they have grammatical structure and some vocabulary in common, but aren't the same, so Rurik will look confused for a moment before switching to English* I am not familiar with your dialect. Do you speak English? What did you say your name was?

*temporarily thrown off balance, metaphorically speaking (though it wouldn't be hard physically, given her platform heeled boots), but recovers quickly, smiling widely* *in a thickly accented English: combination of Bulgarian and English accents, leaning towards Bulgarian, in a charming way* Oh! I am sorry. Yes, I know English. My name is Dhyana. It is very nice to meet you.

*nods in recognition* It is a pleasure to meet you, Dhyana. What brings you to this place? What do you do in it?
