The IT department has decided that its time for the techs to trade in their PowerBook G4's for new MacBooks (not, unfortunately, the more expensive and better-equipped MacBook Pros). I am not to look a gift horse in the mouth, lest Greek warriors fall out of it. So instead I need to christen this little black box ( Read more... )

How about "My Computer" or alternatively "My Laptop"?

Of I course I do. What's so amazing about that? We work on a network here and do a lot of remote management. The box needsto have a unique name anyway, why shouldn't it be a name with some originality. "So-and-so's MacBook" is all very well, but why shouldn't it have a distinctive name?

Duh! Right! I forgot what it is you actually do. In my case it's just me and my computer but in your case, yeah that makes sense.

Interestingly, I heard recently that gift horses into whose mouths one might look apparently have nothing to do with Greeks. And at least two web sites corroborate this.

Yeah, I was actually intentionally mixing gift metaphors (gift horses and Greeks bearing gifts)-- I didn't know it was a common mixing. Ah, well. Not like I've ever received a horse, free or bought, let alone examined its teeth. Thanks for the interesting reading.
